Community Living

Just as important as the documentary production or the community service is daily life.  We will live together in a large house with about ten students and two staff people.  We will share meals together, help each other with projects, plan outings together and hang out together.  There is an educational component to this daily life.  People who haven't already mastered them learn the basic life skills of cooking and cleaning and living within a budget.  In addition to learning how to take care of yourself and others at home, you will learn how to navigate an unfamiliar city.  In short, you will be in an apprenticeship for adulthood, learning the skills of independent living in the company of some adults who can help you out when you need it.

But living together is not just about learning skills that are good for you, it's also a key pleasure of the program. Humans evolved in clans, and although our lives are increasingly isolated by technology, we still respond to the security and comfort of being in a group.  Living, traveling exploring, creating and working with this group of people will create deep connections and lifetime friendships.  You can go out into the city, meeting other people on your job or as part of your documentary, having your own adventures, but you will always know that there will be familiar people to come home to.
